Find out if Mercury is currently retrograde, how many days remain, and when the next Mercury retrograde period begins.
Mercury retrograde is an astrological phenomenon that occurs approximately three times per year. From Earth’s perspective, Mercury appears to move backward through the zodiac for about 3 weeks at a time. This is an optical illusion caused by the different orbital speeds of Earth and Mercury around the Sun — Mercury is not actually moving backward.
How often does it happen? Mercury goes retrograde 3–4 times per year, each lasting roughly 19–24 days. In total, Mercury is retrograde for about 60–66 days per year — roughly 18% of the time.
