Covers driver, passenger, and rear wiper blade lengths.

Wiper Blade Sizes

Wiper blade sizes vary by vehicle make, model, and year. Using the wrong size can leave areas of the windshield unwiped or cause the blades to overlap and collide.

Common wiper blade sizes: Most vehicles use blades between 14 and 28 inches (35-71 cm). The driver side blade is almost always longer than the passenger side.

Typical size ranges:

  • Compact cars: Driver: 22-24" / Passenger: 17-20"
  • Mid-size sedans: Driver: 24-26" / Passenger: 18-20"
  • Full-size sedans: Driver: 26-28" / Passenger: 17-20"
  • SUVs/Trucks: Driver: 22-26" / Passenger: 18-22"
  • Minivans: Driver: 26-28" / Passenger: 16-18", often with rear: 12-16"

Why sizes differ between driver and passenger: The windshield is not symmetrical relative to the wiper pivots. The driver side is positioned to clear the maximum area in front of the driver for safety. The passenger blade is shorter to avoid hitting the driver blade or going off the edge.

Wiper blade types:

  • Conventional (frame): The traditional design with a metal frame and rubber blade. Cheapest option.
  • Beam (bracketless): A single curved piece without an external frame. Better aerodynamics and more uniform pressure.
  • Hybrid: Combines frame structure with an aerodynamic shell. Good balance of performance and durability.

Replacement frequency: Replace wiper blades every 6-12 months, or when you notice streaking, squeaking, skipping, or reduced visibility. Extreme heat and cold accelerate deterioration.

Measuring manually: If you cannot find your size in a guide, measure the existing blade from tip to tip of the rubber. Round to the nearest even inch (wiper blades come in even-inch increments: 14, 16, 18, 20, etc.).
