Beaded Bracelet Bead Count Calculator

Calculate the total seed beads needed for a beaded bracelet in peyote or brick stitch.
Enter bead size, bracelet width, and desired length.

Beads Needed

Seed Bead Sizing

Seed bead sizes are listed as a number followed by /0 (aught). The number indicates how many beads fit per inch in a row, roughly: size 15/0 beads are about 1.3 mm wide; size 11/0 about 1.8 mm; size 8/0 about 2.5 mm; size 6/0 about 3.3 mm. Larger the number, smaller the bead.

Peyote and Brick Stitch Structure

Flat peyote and flat brick stitch both produce a woven fabric where beads alternate position between rows. The key difference is the working direction, but the final bead count is similar.

For even-count flat peyote: beads per row = width / bead_diameter; number of rows = (length / bead_diameter) x 2 (because each bead sits between two beads in the next row, so the effective row height is approximately half the bead diameter).

Total beads = beads_per_row x number_of_rows

Add 10% for dropped beads, threading errors, and a small reserve for finishing.

Thread Length

A general rule for threading: for peyote stitch, cut thread about 4 to 5 times the finished bracelet length for each pass. Most beaders work with 18 to 24 inches of thread at a time to reduce tangles.

Clasp and Finishing

The calculation covers the main beadwork panel. Clasps, toggles, and jump rings are not included. Most bracelets are made 1 to 2 cm longer than the wrist circumference to allow comfortable closure.

Weight Reference

Size 11/0 Delica beads weigh approximately 1.6 grams per gram = roughly 1,100 beads per gram. Size 8/0 approximately 400 beads per gram. For larger projects, ordering by weight (grams or ounces) is more reliable than by bead count.
