A 10 by 10 foot slab poured 4 inches thick is about 33 cubic feet, which works out to roughly 1.2 cubic yards, and you would order 1.5 to be safe. Shipping a freight pallet? Carriers price by the cubic foot or by cubic meters, and one cubic meter is about 35.3 cubic feet. Sizing a fridge, freezer, or storage unit? That capacity is quoted in cubic feet too.
The calculator also gives gallons and liters, handy for tanks, ponds, and aquariums, since one cubic foot holds about 7.48 US gallons. A quick warning on round or irregular containers: this assumes a rectangular box. For a cylinder you need pi times radius squared times height, not length times width. And always round up when ordering material. Running a half-yard short on a concrete pour means a cold joint in the slab and a second delivery fee.
