Gutter Guard Length Calculator

Calculate how many linear feet of gutter guard you need for your home.
Compare coverage, costs, and find the right product length.

Screen/mesh ~$0.50-2, micro-mesh ~$1.50-4, reverse curve ~$3-8, solid covers ~$10-25 per foot.
Leave blank for DIY / material only. Pros typically add $1-3 per foot.
Gutter Guard Needed

Gutter guards (also called gutter covers, gutter screens, or leaf guards) sit over or inside your gutters to prevent leaves, debris, and pests from clogging the gutter channel. They reduce the frequency of gutter cleaning from 2–4 times per year down to every few years for most homes.

How Much Do You Need?

The total length of gutter guard needed equals the total length of gutters on your home. Most single-story homes have 100–200 linear feet (30–60 m) of gutter. Two-story and larger homes can have 200–350+ linear feet.

How to Estimate Gutter Length

If you don’t have a measurement, use this rule of thumb:

  • Small ranch home (1,000–1,500 sq ft): ~100–130 linear feet
  • Medium home (1,500–2,500 sq ft): ~130–200 linear feet
  • Large home (2,500–4,000 sq ft): ~200–280 linear feet
  • Very large home (4,000+ sq ft): ~280–400 linear feet

Types of Gutter Guards

Type Price per Linear Foot Effectiveness Lifespan
Screen / mesh $0.50–2.00 Moderate 5–10 years
Micro-mesh $1.50–4.00 Very good 15–25 years
Reverse curve $3.00–8.00 Good 20+ years
Foam insert $1.00–2.50 Moderate 3–5 years
Brush insert $2.00–4.00 Moderate 5–10 years
Solid cover (Leaf Guard) $10–25+ Excellent 20+ years

Cost Formula

Total material cost = Linear feet × Price per foot Total installed cost ≈ Material cost + Labor (typically $1–3/linear foot additional)

The price ranges in the table above are approximate and shift with brand, region, and year. Enter your own price per foot (and labor, if hiring out) for a number that fits your project.

What Size Gutter Do You Have?

Most residential gutters are either 5-inch K-style (the most common) or 6-inch K-style. Make sure the gutter guard you choose is sized to match your existing gutters.

Tips

  • Measure the actual gutter length with a tape measure for accuracy
  • Add 10% for waste and overlaps
  • Corners require special attention — buy corner pieces or allow extra for overlapping
  • Compare cost per year (total cost ÷ expected lifespan) rather than upfront price
