Mulch Volume Formula:
Volume (cu ft) = Length (ft) × Width (ft) × Depth (in) / 12
Cubic Yards = Volume (cu ft) / 27
Recommended mulch depth:
- Flower beds: 2-3 inches
- Trees and shrubs: 3-4 inches
- Pathways: 4-6 inches
- Weed suppression: 4+ inches
Coverage per cubic yard:
- At 2" depth: 162 sq ft
- At 3" depth: 108 sq ft
- At 4" depth: 81 sq ft
Bag sizes:
- Standard bag: 2 cubic feet
- Large bag: 3 cubic feet
- 1 cubic yard = 27 cubic feet = ~13.5 standard bags
Tip: Order 5-10% extra to account for settling and irregular areas.
