Air Fryer Time and Temperature Converter

Convert conventional oven recipes to air fryer time and temperature.
Get accurate air fryer cooking times for any food.

Air Fryer Settings

Air fryers cook food using rapid hot air circulation — a process similar to convection ovens but more intense. Because the air fryer basket is smaller and the airflow is more concentrated, food cooks faster and at a lower temperature than in a conventional oven.

The General Conversion Rule

When converting a conventional oven recipe to an air fryer:

  • Reduce temperature by 25°F (15°C)
  • Reduce cooking time by 20–25%

For example, if a recipe calls for 400°F (200°C) for 30 minutes in a conventional oven, you would set the air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 22–24 minutes.

Why the Difference?

Conventional ovens heat food primarily through radiant heat from elements and natural convection. Air fryers circulate hot air at much higher speeds — typically 6–7 times faster than a standard oven. This efficient heat transfer cooks food faster and creates crispy exteriors more effectively.

Food-Specific Guidelines

Different foods have different density and moisture content, which affects cooking time:

  • Frozen foods: Often cook in 50–60% of the package oven time
  • Fresh vegetables: 8–15 minutes at 375–400°F (190–200°C)
  • Chicken breast (boneless): 18–22 minutes at 375°F (190°C)
  • Whole chicken: 60–75 minutes at 350°F (175°C)
  • French fries (homemade): 15–20 minutes at 400°F (200°C), shake halfway
  • Salmon fillet: 8–12 minutes at 400°F (200°C)
  • Pork chops: 14–16 minutes at 375°F (190°C)

Best Practices

Do not overcrowd the basket — food needs airflow around all surfaces. Shake or flip food halfway through cooking for even browning. Lightly coat food with oil for best browning results. Always check doneness with a food thermometer for meat.

Note on Air Fryer Models

Air fryer brands and wattages vary. Higher-wattage models (1800W+) cook faster than lower-wattage models (1200W). Always check your food a few minutes early until you know your specific model.
