Cross Stitch Calculator
Calculate fabric size, thread length, and time needed for your cross stitch project.
Supports all common fabric counts.
Project Requirements
Cross stitch fabric size depends on your pattern dimensions and fabric count.
Fabric Size = (Stitch Count / Fabric Count) + Margin
Common fabric counts (stitches per inch / per cm):
- 11 count: Large stitches, beginner-friendly (4.3/cm)
- 14 count: Most popular, good detail (5.5/cm)
- 16 count: Finer detail (6.3/cm)
- 18 count: Small stitches, detailed work (7.1/cm)
- 28 count evenweave: Stitched over 2 threads = 14 count equivalent
Thread usage estimate:
- Each cross stitch uses about 1 inch (2.5 cm) of thread on 14-count
- Full coverage: ~1.2 skeins per square inch on 14-count
- Partial coverage: multiply by coverage percentage
Time estimates (varies by skill level):
- Beginner: ~50–80 stitches per hour
- Intermediate: ~100–150 stitches per hour
- Advanced: ~150–200+ stitches per hour
Always add 3 inches (7.5 cm) margin on each side for framing.
