Weighted Grade Calculator
Calculate your weighted grade average with up to 10 assignments, each with its own weight.
See your overall course grade.
Weighted Grade Calculation accounts for the fact that different assignments, exams, and projects contribute different percentages to your final grade.
Formula:
Weighted Grade = Ξ£(Grade Γ Weight) / Ξ£(Weights)
Where:
- Grade = Your score on each assignment (as a percentage, 0β100)
- Weight = How much that assignment counts toward the final grade (as a percentage)
Step-by-Step:
- Multiply each grade by its weight
- Add up all the products
- Divide by the total of all weights
Common Weighting Schemes:
| Component | Weight (Example 1) | Weight (Example 2) |
|---|---|---|
| Homework | 20% | 15% |
| Quizzes | 15% | 10% |
| Midterm Exam | 25% | 30% |
| Final Exam | 30% | 35% |
| Participation | 10% | 10% |
Practical Example:
- Homework: 92% (weight 20%) β 92 Γ 20 = 1,840
- Midterm: 78% (weight 30%) β 78 Γ 30 = 2,340
- Final: 85% (weight 40%) β 85 Γ 40 = 3,400
- Participation: 95% (weight 10%) β 95 Γ 10 = 950
Total: (1,840 + 2,340 + 3,400 + 950) / (20 + 30 + 40 + 10) = 8,530 / 100 = 85.3%
Letter Grade Scale (Common US):
| Percentage | Letter |
|---|---|
| 93β100 | A |
| 90β92 | Aβ |
| 87β89 | B+ |
| 83β86 | B |
| 80β82 | Bβ |
| 77β79 | C+ |
| 73β76 | C |
| 70β72 | Cβ |
| 67β69 | D+ |
| 60β66 | D |
| Below 60 | F |
Tips:
- Weights should add up to 100%, but the calculator works even if they do not (it normalizes).
- Focus study time on heavily weighted assignments for maximum grade impact.
- If you know the weights and your current grades, you can calculate what you need on the final exam to reach a target grade.
- Some courses use points rather than percentages β convert to percentages first.
