Best Deal

Unit Price = Total Price / Quantity

This calculator compares two products by dividing each product’s price by its quantity to find the cost per unit. The product with the lower unit price is the better deal.

What the variables mean:

  • Price – the total price of each product
  • Quantity – the amount in each package (weight, volume, or item count)

When to use this calculator: Use it whenever you are comparing two different package sizes of the same product. For example, is the 500g bag for $5.99 a better value than the 1kg bag for $9.99? This is especially helpful for groceries, household supplies, pet food, and bulk shopping.

Practical examples:

  • Cereal: Brand A is $4.50 for 400g ($0.01125/g). Brand B is $6.00 for 600g ($0.01000/g). Brand B wins by 11%.
  • Paper towels: 6-pack for $8.99 ($1.50/roll) vs. 12-pack for $15.99 ($1.33/roll). The 12-pack saves you 11% per roll.

Tips and common mistakes:

  • Make sure both quantities use the same unit (both in grams, both in ounces, etc.).
  • A bigger package is not always cheaper per unit – always check.
  • Factor in shelf life: a bulk deal is not a deal if the product expires before you use it.
  • The calculator shows the percentage savings so you can judge whether the savings justify buying the larger size.
