Watch Band Size Calculator
Find the correct watch band lug width and case diameter for your wrist.
Recommends band size in mm for slim, standard, and oversized watch styles.
How Watch Band Size Is Determined
A watch band must match both the lug width of the watch case and the wrist circumference of the wearer. Getting either measurement wrong means a band that won’t attach or won’t fit comfortably.
Lug width measurement:
The lug width is the distance between the two lugs (the protrusions where the band attaches to the case), measured across the bottom where the spring bar passes through.
Lug width (mm) = distance between inner lug faces
Standard lug widths run in 2 mm increments: 16, 18, 20, 22, 24 mm. Most men’s dress watches use 18–20 mm; sports and diver watches commonly use 20–22 mm; ladies’ watches often use 12–16 mm.
Band length sizing by wrist circumference:
| Wrist Size | Recommended Band Length |
|---|---|
| Under 6 in (15 cm) | Short: 100/50 mm (buckle/tail) |
| 6–7 in (15–18 cm) | Standard: 120/75 mm |
| 7–7.5 in (18–19 cm) | Long: 125/80 mm |
| Over 7.5 in (19+ cm) | XL: 130/85 mm or extra long |
Standard two-piece bands are listed as long piece / short piece (e.g., 120/75).
Comfort rule:
A properly sized band should allow you to slide two fingers comfortably between the band and wrist. Too tight restricts circulation; too loose allows the watch to slide and read time inaccurately.
Spring bar diameter:
Standard spring bars are 1.5 mm in diameter and come in different lengths matching the lug width. Always replace with the correct length — a spring bar that is too short can pop out unexpectedly.
Material recommendations by activity:
- Formal: leather, alligator, or metal bracelet
- Sports: silicone, rubber, or NATO nylon
- Water activities: rubber, silicone, or stainless metal
