Game Download Time Calculator
Estimate how long a game will take to download based on file size and internet speed.
Compare Wi-Fi vs wired connections.
Download time depends on file size and connection speed.
Formula:
Time (seconds) = File Size (MB) × 8 / Speed (Mbps)
Note: Internet speed is measured in megabits (Mb), while file size is in megabytes (MB). 1 byte = 8 bits, so divide speed by 8 to get MB/s.
Common game sizes:
| Game Type | Typical Size |
|---|---|
| Indie game | 1-5 GB |
| Standard game | 20-50 GB |
| AAA title | 50-100 GB |
| Large AAA + DLC | 100-200+ GB |
Internet speed reference:
| Speed | MB/s | 50 GB game |
|---|---|---|
| 25 Mbps | 3.1 MB/s | ~4.5 hours |
| 100 Mbps | 12.5 MB/s | ~67 minutes |
| 300 Mbps | 37.5 MB/s | ~22 minutes |
| 1 Gbps | 125 MB/s | ~7 minutes |
Real-world speeds are typically 60-80% of advertised speeds due to overhead, congestion, and server limits.
