Speedrun Pace Calculator
Calculate your speedrun pace and projected finish time.
Track splits, compare to world record pace, and see if you are ahead or behind target.
How It Works
Speedrunning is the practice of completing a video game as fast as possible, often using precise routing, technical execution, and deep knowledge of game mechanics. Modern speedrunning is tracked and verified on platforms like Speedrun.com, where runners submit times across hundreds of thousands of games.
Understanding splits: A “split” is a checkpoint within a run — typically the completion of a level, boss, area, or key event. Runners use split timers (like LiveSplit) to record how long each segment takes. By comparing each split to a target or world record, you know in real time whether your run is on pace.
This calculator’s approach:
- Average time per segment needed = target finish time ÷ total number of segments
- Current pace per segment = elapsed time so far ÷ segments completed
- Projected total time = current pace × total segments
- Time ahead/behind = projected time − target time (negative = ahead)
Speedrunning categories:
- Any% — finish the game as fast as possible, any means allowed (glitches, skips)
- 100% — complete all major objectives, collectibles, or achievements
- Glitchless — complete the game without using unintended bugs or exploits
- Low% — complete the game with as few items or upgrades as possible
Pacing strategy: Consistent pacing is generally better than hot starts. A runner who goes out 30 seconds ahead in early segments but loses focus in late segments will often finish slower than one who maintained steady, deliberate play. Many top runners set conservative sub-splits for each segment rather than chasing maximum pace throughout.
Handling mistakes: Every serious speedrunner develops a “reset threshold” — if a run falls a certain amount of time behind pace early on, they reset and start again rather than finishing a doomed run. This tool helps you judge that threshold objectively.
Practice tips:
- Run individual segments in isolation to optimize each section
- Study world record videos to identify time-save opportunities
- Keep a log of completed run times to track improvement over sessions
- Join game-specific Discord communities — routing knowledge is shared freely
All times in this calculator are displayed in MM:SS format for easy comparison with standard split timers.
