Your Weight Class

How weight classes work in combat sports:

Weight classes exist to create fair competition. Each organization has its own divisions and limits. The weight you must hit is measured at weigh-in — typically 24 hours before the fight (MMA/boxing) or the morning of the event (wrestling/judo).

UFC / Professional MMA Weight Classes:

Division Upper Limit
Strawweight 115 lbs (52.2 kg)
Flyweight 125 lbs (56.7 kg)
Bantamweight 135 lbs (61.2 kg)
Featherweight 145 lbs (65.8 kg)
Lightweight 155 lbs (70.3 kg)
Welterweight 170 lbs (77.1 kg)
Middleweight 185 lbs (83.9 kg)
Light Heavyweight 205 lbs (93.0 kg)
Heavyweight 265 lbs (120.2 kg)

Professional Boxing Weight Classes:

Division Upper Limit
Minimumweight 105 lbs (47.6 kg)
Light Flyweight 108 lbs (49.0 kg)
Flyweight 112 lbs (50.8 kg)
Bantamweight 118 lbs (53.5 kg)
Featherweight 126 lbs (57.2 kg)
Lightweight 135 lbs (61.2 kg)
Welterweight 147 lbs (66.7 kg)
Middleweight 160 lbs (72.6 kg)
Light Heavyweight 175 lbs (79.4 kg)

Super Heavyweight No limit

Weight cutting reality:

Most fighters compete 10–15 lbs below their walking-around weight. A fighter who walks at 175 lbs may compete at welterweight (170 lbs) or even lightweight (155 lbs).

Safe weight cut guidelines:

  • Lose no more than 5–8% of bodyweight through water manipulation
  • Rehydrate fully before competing — performance drops sharply above 3% dehydration
  • Chronic large weight cuts increase concussion risk and kidney damage
