Includes seed, pellet, fruit, and vegetable recommendations.

Daily Diet Plan

Pet bird nutrition varies significantly by species. The general rule is that birds eat approximately 10–15% of their body weight daily. A balanced diet includes pellets, fresh vegetables, fruits, and limited seeds.

Daily food intake formula: Daily food (grams) = Body weight (grams) × 0.10 to 0.15

Recommended diet ratios by bird type:

Amazon Parrot 350–500 g (12–18 oz)
Finch / Canary 10–30 g (0.4–1.1 oz)

Safe vegetables: Leafy greens (kale, spinach, romaine), carrots, broccoli, bell peppers, sweet potatoes, peas.

Safe fruits: Apples (no seeds), berries, bananas, grapes, melon, mango, papaya.

Toxic foods to avoid: Avocado, chocolate, caffeine, onion, garlic, alcohol, fruit seeds/pits.

Tip: Fresh water must be available at all times. Change water daily. Seeds should be a treat, not the main diet, as seed-only diets lead to fatty liver disease and malnutrition.
