Time Dilation Calculator
Calculate relativistic time dilation and length contraction from Einstein's special relativity.
Enter velocity as a percentage of the speed of light.
Special Relativity predicts that time slows down and lengths contract for objects moving at high speeds.
Lorentz Factor:
γ = 1 / √(1 − v²/c²)
Time Dilation:
t' = γ × t
A clock moving at velocity v runs slower by factor γ. If 1 year passes on a spaceship at 90% c, 2.29 years pass on Earth.
Length Contraction:
L' = L / γ
Objects moving at velocity v appear shorter in the direction of motion by factor γ.
Examples:
- At 50% c: γ = 1.155
- At 90% c: γ = 2.294
- At 99% c: γ = 7.089
- At 99.9% c: γ = 22.37
- At 99.99% c: γ = 70.71
