Wind Chill Calculator

Calculate the wind chill (feels-like) temperature from air temperature and wind speed.
Supports Fahrenheit/Celsius and mph/km/h.

Wind Chill Temperature

Wind chill describes how cold it feels on exposed skin when wind is factored in. The NWS uses the following formula:

Fahrenheit formula (NWS): Wind Chill (°F) = 35.74 + 0.6215T − 35.75V^0.16 + 0.4275TV^0.16

Where T = air temperature (°F), V = wind speed (mph)

Celsius formula: Wind Chill (°C) = 13.12 + 0.6215T − 11.37V^0.16 + 0.3965TV^0.16

Where T = air temperature (°C), V = wind speed (km/h)

Validity range:

  • Temperature: At or below 50°F (10°C)
  • Wind speed: Above 3 mph (5 km/h)

Unit conversions:

  • °F to °C: (°F − 32) × 5/9
  • °C to °F: (°C × 9/5) + 32
  • mph to km/h: mph × 1.609
  • km/h to mph: km/h × 0.621

Frostbite risk by wind chill:

  • Above 0°F (−18°C): Low risk
  • 0°F to −20°F (−18°C to −29°C): 30 minutes to frostbite
  • −20°F to −35°F (−29°C to −37°C): 10 minutes to frostbite
  • Below −35°F (−37°C): 5 minutes to frostbite — dangerously cold
