Gymnastics Score Calculator
Calculate artistic gymnastics final score from D-score and E-score execution deductions using FIG scoring rules.
Includes neutral deductions for falls and time.
The FIG (International Gymnastics Federation) scoring system, introduced after the 2004 Athens Olympics judging controversy, uses an open-ended difficulty scale that replaced the old 10.0 maximum system.
How the score is built
D-score (Difficulty Score): the sum of difficulty values for up to the best 8 elements performed, plus connection bonuses. There is no cap — elite gymnasts regularly post D-scores of 5.0-7.0 on floor and vault.
E-score (Execution Score): starts at 10.0 and deductions are subtracted for execution errors. Small errors (crossed feet, bent knees) cost 0.1. Medium errors (noticeable balance check) cost 0.3. Large errors (step on landing) cost 0.5. A fall costs 1.0.
Final score = D-score + E-score - Neutral Deductions
Neutral deductions are separate penalties: 0.1 for a minor time violation, 0.3 for a significant time violation, 1.0 per fall in some disciplines.
Typical score ranges
World-class elite: 14.0-16.0 (floor), 13.5-15.5 (uneven bars, balance beam) National-level: 11.0-13.5 Club/recreational level: 8.0-11.0
Example
Simone Biles on floor at 2023 World Championships: D-score ≈ 7.0, E-score ≈ 8.6 (no major errors), total ≈ 15.6. For reference, the maximum possible E-score is 10.0, but in practice a clean routine rarely scores above 9.0 due to tenths deducted for minor form issues.
The E-score in this calculator is computed as 10.0 minus your total execution deductions. Enter the sum of all execution deductions, not individual ones separately.
