GST (Goods and Services Tax) is a value-added tax applied to goods and services.
Adding GST to a price (GST-exclusive → inclusive):
GST Amount = Price × (GST Rate / 100)
Total Price = Price + GST Amount
Removing GST from a total (GST-inclusive → exclusive):
Pre-GST Price = Total / (1 + GST Rate / 100)
GST Amount = Total - Pre-GST Price
Common GST rates by country:
- India: 5%, 12%, 18%, 28% (slab-based)
- Australia: 10% (flat)
- Canada: 5% federal GST (+ provincial HST varies)
- New Zealand: 15%
- Singapore: 9%
- Malaysia: 8%
India GST slabs:
- 5%: Essential items, transport
- 12%: Processed food, business class air
- 18%: Most goods and services (default)
- 28%: Luxury items, cars, tobacco
