Triathlon Race Time Calculator
Calculate your total triathlon finish time from swim, bike, and run paces plus transition times.
Works for sprint, Olympic, 70.3, and Ironman distances.
Estimated Finish Time
A triathlon finish time is the sum of three discipline times plus two transitions (T1: swim-to-bike, T2: bike-to-run).
Total time = Swim time + T1 + Bike time + T2 + Run time
Standard triathlon distances:
| Event | Swim | Bike | Run |
|---|---|---|---|
| Super Sprint | 400 m | 10 km | 2.5 km |
| Sprint | 750 m | 20 km | 5 km |
| Olympic | 1,500 m | 40 km | 10 km |
| 70.3 (Half Ironman) | 1,900 m | 90 km | 21.1 km |
| Full Ironman | 3,800 m | 180 km | 42.2 km |
Typical finish times by athlete level (Olympic distance):
- Beginner: 2:30–3:00
- Intermediate club racer: 2:00–2:30
- Competitive age grouper: 1:50–2:10
- Elite age grouper: 1:45–2:00
- Elite pro: under 1:45
Pacing tips:
- Swim: Enter paced conservatively — overexertion in the swim elevates heart rate and affects the bike. Aim for 70–80% effort.
- Bike: The longest discipline in time. Common mistake is going too hard and ruining the run. Many coaches recommend keeping bike effort at 70–75% FTP.
- Run: The hardest discipline to pace because legs are already fatigued. Expect your run pace to be 10–20 seconds per km slower than an equivalent standalone 10K.
- Transitions: For sprint and Olympic, aim for T1 under 2 minutes, T2 under 1 minute. For Ironman, 5–10 minutes each is normal.
