Mocktail Quantities

Mocktails (non-alcoholic cocktails) follow the same balanced structure as cocktails: a base, a modifier, and an accent. Getting the ratios right is the key to a delicious drink.

Classic mocktail structure:

  • Base (60%): the primary juice or flavored water (citrus, berry, tropical)
  • Modifier (25%): secondary flavor (ginger beer, tonic water, flavored syrup)
  • Accent (15%): brightness or complexity (fresh lime juice, bitters, shrub)

Simple syrup ratio: Equal parts sugar and water by volume. Heat until dissolved, cool, and refrigerate up to 2 weeks.

Standard serving sizes:

  • Short mocktail (rocks glass): 90–120 mL (3–4 oz)
  • Tall mocktail (highball): 150–180 mL (5–6 oz)
  • Large punch serving: 240 mL (8 oz)

Popular base ratios:

  • Virgin Mojito: 60 mL lime juice, 20 mL simple syrup, mint, soda water to fill
  • Shirley Temple: 2 parts ginger ale, 1 part orange juice, grenadine
  • Arnold Palmer: 1 part lemonade, 1 part iced tea
  • Virgin Mary (Bloody Mary): 120 mL tomato juice, 15 mL lemon juice, Worcestershire, hot sauce

For large batches, prepare the base and modifier ahead of time and add carbonated elements (soda, sparkling water) just before serving to preserve fizz.
