Paint Pouring Calculator
Calculate how much acrylic paint and pouring medium you need for your canvas.
Covers dirty pour, flip cup, and swipe techniques.
Paint pouring requires calculating the total volume to cover your canvas surface.
Surface area formula:
- Imperial:
Area = Width (in) × Height (in) - Metric:
Area = Width (cm) × Height (cm)
Paint volume needed:
The standard coverage is about 1 oz (30 ml) per 25 sq inches (161 sq cm).
Volume (oz) = Area (sq in) / 25
Volume (ml) = Area (sq cm) / 5.4
Typical paint-to-medium ratio:
- Standard pour: 1 part paint to 2 parts medium
- Thin pour: 1 part paint to 3 parts medium
- Thick pour: 1 part paint to 1 part medium
Add 20-30% extra for overflow (paint pouring requires excess to cover edges).
Color distribution: Divide total paint evenly across your number of colors, or customize ratios.
