Love Calculator
Enter two names and get a fun compatibility score! This love calculator uses a deterministic hash so the same names always produce the same result.
This lighthearted calculator estimates the annual cost of a relationship — date nights, gifts, travel, shared subscriptions, and those spontaneous “just because” purchases — so couples can budget for romance without the surprises.
The core formula is:
Annual Love Budget = Date Costs + Gift Costs + Travel Costs + Shared Services + Miscellaneous Gestures
Each category:
Date Costs = Dates Per Month × Average Cost Per Date × 12
Gift Costs = (Birthday + Valentine’s Day + Anniversary + Spontaneous) × 1
Worked Example — Mid-tier relationship budget:
- Dinner dates: 2×/month × $65/date × 12 = $1,560
- Movies/activities: 2×/month × $40 × 12 = $960
- Valentine’s Day: $150 (flowers, dinner, chocolates)
- Birthday: $120
- Anniversary dinner + weekend trip: $600
- Spontaneous gifts/flowers: ~$30 × 6 = $180
- Shared Netflix/Spotify: $25/month × 12 = $300
- Miscellaneous (snacks, surprises): $20/month × 12 = $240
- Total Annual “Love Budget” = $4,110
Per day: $4,110 / 365 = $11.26/day
Fun Benchmarks:
- Average American spends $143 on Valentine’s Day alone (NRF 2024)
- Annual wedding anniversary spending: $500–$1,200 average
- US couples spend an average of $3,000–$8,000/year on relationship-related expenses
- Couples who budget together report 30% higher relationship satisfaction in surveys
The most valuable “investment” in a relationship costs nothing — quality time and communication. But knowing the numbers helps you plan the experiences that make the memories!
