Cents Per Point (CPP) The standard way to measure the value of rewards points is “cents per point” (CPP). A point worth 1.5 CPP means every 100 points = $1.50 in value.
Standard Benchmark Values These are widely accepted valuations from travel rewards communities:
| Program | Base Redemption | Transfer Partner |
|---|---|---|
| Chase Ultimate Rewards | 1.5 cpp (travel portal) | 2.0 cpp (transfer) |
| Amex Membership Rewards | 1.0 cpp (statement credit) | 2.0 cpp (transfer) |
| Citi ThankYou Points | 1.0 cpp (cash) | 1.7 cpp (transfer) |
| Airline Miles (avg) | 1.3 cpp | varies |
| Hotel Points (avg) | 0.5 cpp | varies |
Transfer Partners Bank points (Chase, Amex, Citi) can be transferred 1:1 to airline and hotel loyalty programs. When transferred strategically for premium cabin flights, values of 2–5+ cpp are achievable.
Tip Never redeem bank points for cash or gift cards at 1 cpp or less if you travel at all. The travel portal alone (1.5 cpp for Chase Sapphire Reserve) beats cash redemptions significantly.
