Estimated Print Cost

The Photo Print Cost Calculator helps you estimate the total expense of printing photographs at a professional print shop or online lab. Pricing varies significantly based on three main factors: print size, paper or finish type, and order quantity.

Print Size is the most obvious cost driver. Standard sizes like 4x6 inches (approximately 10x15 cm) are the cheapest because they use the least material and are produced in the highest volumes. As you move up to 5x7 inches (13x18 cm), 8x10 inches (20x25 cm), 11x14 inches (28x36 cm), 16x20 inches (41x51 cm), and large-format 24x36 inches (61x91 cm), the price per print increases substantially. Large-format prints above 16x20 typically cost several times more than standard prints because they require specialized equipment.

Paper or Finish Type also affects cost. Standard glossy or matte prints are the most affordable option. Lustre finish, which offers a semi-gloss texture that resists fingerprints, typically costs 20 to 40 percent more than standard. Metallic prints, which have a pearlescent sheen that makes colors pop, usually cost 50 to 80 percent more. Canvas prints, where the image is printed on canvas material and often stretched over a frame, are the most expensive option and can cost two to four times the price of a standard print.

Quantity Discounts are common at most print shops. Ordering in bulk — typically 50 or more prints — can reduce the per-unit cost by 10 to 25 percent. This calculator applies a 15 percent discount when quantity pricing is enabled, reflecting a typical bulk order savings.

To use this calculator, enter the number of prints, select your print size, enter your lab’s standard price per print for that size, choose a finish, and optionally enable the quantity discount. The calculator scales by finish (Lustre, Metallic, and Canvas cost more than standard) and shows both the cost per print and the total order cost. Prices vary widely by lab, region, and year, so use your own quoted price for the most accurate result.
