MBTI-style personality typing categorizes psychological preferences across four independent dimensions, each representing a spectrum between two poles.
The four dimensions:
1. Extraversion (E) vs. Introversion (I) Where you direct your mental energy.
- E: energized by social interaction, external stimulation
- I: energized by solitude, internal reflection
2. Sensing (S) vs. Intuition (N) How you take in information.
- S: focuses on concrete facts, present reality, step-by-step detail
- N: focuses on patterns, future possibilities, abstract concepts
3. Thinking (T) vs. Feeling (F) How you make decisions.
- T: prioritizes logic, objective analysis, consistency
- F: prioritizes values, empathy, harmony
4. Judging (J) vs. Perceiving (P) How you approach the outer world.
- J: prefers structure, planning, closure
- P: prefers flexibility, spontaneity, keeping options open
How scores are calculated:
Each dimension is scored independently on a 0–100% scale.
Score_E = (E responses / Total E+I questions) × 100
A score of 60% E means moderate extraversion — not extreme. A score of 95% I means very strong introversion.
The 16 types combine one letter from each pair: ISTJ · ISFJ · INFJ · INTJ · ISTP · ISFP · INFP · INTP ESTP · ESFP · ENFP · ENTP · ESTJ · ESFJ · ENFJ · ENTJ
Worked example: A person answers 7 out of 10 E/I questions toward I, 8/10 toward N, 6/10 toward T, 9/10 toward J. Result: INTJ — “The Architect” — known for strategic thinking and high standards.
Important caveat: MBTI-style types are useful self-reflection tools, not rigid boxes. Personality is fluid and context-dependent. Use results as a starting point, not a final label.
