Convert between the old SAT scale (2400 max) and the new SAT scale (1600 max).
Useful for comparing scores across different test years.
SAT Score Conversion between the old (pre-2016) and new (post-2016) scales:
The old SAT had a maximum score of 2400 (three sections: Reading, Math, Writing, each 200–800).
The new SAT has a maximum score of 1600 (two sections: Evidence-Based Reading & Writing, and Math, each 200–800).
Approximate conversion formula:
New SAT ≈ (Old SAT / 2400) × 1400 + 200
Old SAT ≈ ((New SAT − 200) / 1400) × 2400
Score ranges (approximate equivalents):
- Old 2400 ≈ New 1600
- Old 2100 ≈ New 1400
- Old 1800 ≈ New 1200
- Old 1500 ≈ New 1000
- Old 1200 ≈ New 800
