Countdown Calculator
Calculate exactly how many days, hours, minutes, and seconds remain until your target date.
Perfect for events, deadlines, and milestones.
A countdown calculator measures the exact time remaining until a future event — in days, hours, minutes, and seconds. It is used for event planning, deadline tracking, project management, and personal milestones.
The calculation: Time remaining = Target date and time − Current date and time
The result is broken down into days, hours, minutes, and seconds.
Days remaining formula: Days = floor((Target timestamp − Current timestamp) / 86,400) Where 86,400 = seconds in a day
Worked example: Current date: 8 April 2026, 14:30 Target date: 25 December 2026, 00:00
Days remaining: 261 days Hours: 9 hours 30 minutes remaining today Total: 260 days 9 hours 30 minutes
Common uses for countdowns:
Personal milestones:
- Wedding day: helps couples plan tasks by week and day
- Birthday: countdown to a significant age
- Holiday departure: when to book airport transfer, pack, arrange pet care
Business and academic:
- Project deadlines: allocate remaining time across tasks
- Tax filing dates: UK self-assessment deadline 31 January
- Contract renewal dates
- Product launch dates
Events and sports:
- Olympics, World Cup, major sporting events
- Concert ticket sales opening
- School term start dates
Working backwards from a deadline: If you have 90 days until a project is due and 18 tasks to complete: 90 / 18 = 5 days average per task This creates a rough schedule for staying on track.
Time zones: For international events, always specify the time zone. 14:00 BST (UTC+1) is 09:00 EDT (UTC−4) — a 5-hour difference. Most countdown tools default to local time.
How we build and check this calculator
This calculator runs entirely in your browser, so the numbers you enter stay on your device. The math behind it is written by hand and tested against worked examples and standard references before the page goes live.
SuperGlobalCalculator is independently built and maintained. See how we build and verify our calculators.
