Cake Pan Size and Serving Calculator
Calculate how many servings a cake makes from any pan size, or find the right pan size for a target number of guests.
Includes round, square, and sheet pans.
Standard Serving Sizes A party or dessert serving from a layer cake is typically a 1" x 2" slice (for a 4" tall two-layer cake). A wedding cake serving is smaller: 1" x 2" x 4" (a thinner slice). This calculator uses the party serving standard.
Round Cake Volumes 6" round: 2 layers, approximately 12 servings. 8" round: 2 layers, ~20 servings. 10" round: 2 layers, ~28 servings. 12" round: 2 layers, ~40 servings. 14" round: ~55 servings.
Sheet Cakes 9 x 13" sheet: ~24 party servings (2" x 2" squares). Half sheet (12 x 18"): ~48 servings. Full sheet (18 x 24"): ~96 servings.
Scaling Recipes Between Pans Use the pan area to determine how much batter you need. If converting from an 8" round to a 9" round, the area increases by 27% — multiply all ingredients by 1.27.
