Find your exact age, the day of the week you were born, days until your next birthday, and whether you were born on a leap year date.
Exact age calculation goes beyond counting years. A precise age in years, months, and days accounts for varying month lengths, leap years, and the exact calendar date — giving the true elapsed time between a birth date and today (or any target date).
Basic formula — exact years: Age in years = floor((Today’s Date − Birth Date) ÷ 365.25)
The 365.25 accounts for the average leap year effect (one extra day every 4 years).
Precise years + months + days method:
- Start with full years: Count complete calendar years elapsed since birth.
- Remaining months: From the birth-month anniversary in the final year to the current month, count complete calendar months.
- Remaining days: Days elapsed since the last full-month anniversary.
Special case — leap day birthdays (February 29):
- In non-leap years, the official birthday is recognized on March 1 in most countries, or February 28 in others. The calculator typically shows the birthday on Feb 28 in non-leap years.
Interesting age milestones:
- 1,000 days old: approximately 2 years, 8 months, 24 days
- 10,000 days old: approximately 27 years, 4–5 months
- 1,000,000 hours old: approximately 114 years (essentially impossible to reach!)
- 1 billion seconds old: approximately 31.69 years
Age in other units:
- Total days: (Today − Birth Date), directly computable from calendar date arithmetic
- Total weeks: Total days ÷ 7
- Total months (approximate): Years × 12 + months remainder
- Total hours: Total days × 24
Worked example: Born: March 15, 1990. Today: October 8, 2025.
- Full years elapsed: 2025 − 1990 = 35, but birthday (March 15) has already passed in 2025 → 35 years
- Months from March 15 to October 8: April, May, June, July, August, September = 6 complete months
- Days remaining: October 8 − October 15? No: from September 15 to October 8 = 23 days
- Exact age: 35 years, 6 months, 23 days
- Total days: approximately 35 × 365.25 + 6 × 30.44 + 23 = 12,975 days
- Next 1,000-day milestone after 12,000 days: already passed; next is 13,000 days (on approximately June 3, 2025: already occurred)
