Weighted Allocation Method Not everyone on your list deserves the same budget. This calculator uses priority weights to allocate proportionally:
- Close family (spouse, children, parents): weight 4
- Extended family (siblings, grandparents, in-laws): weight 2
- Close friends: weight 2
- Acquaintances and coworkers: weight 1
The Formula Total Weight = (Close Family × 4) + (Extended Family × 2) + (Close Friends × 2) + (Acquaintances × 1) Budget per Weight Unit = Total Budget / Total Weight Per-Person Budget = Budget per Weight Unit × Group Weight

Gift Budget Tips
- Set your total budget BEFORE shopping, not after adding up what you already bought
- Consider non-monetary gifts (experiences, homemade items, your time)
- Buy off-season when possible for better prices
- Gift cards are easy but impersonal, so save them for acquaintances and coworkers
- Secret Santa and gift exchanges cut the per-person cost sharply
- Kids appreciate experiences (outings, memberships) as much as toys

Twenty people on a $300 budget gives acquaintances about $5 each, which buys nothing anyone wants and costs you an evening of shopping.
