Days Until Deadline

Calendar days and business days are different numbers, and mixing them up is a reliable way to miss a deadline.

A project that is “10 business days away” is two full calendar weeks, which is further off than most people picture when counting quickly on their fingers.

This calculator counts from today to a target date and reports:

  • Total calendar days
  • Weekdays (Monday through Friday, excluding Saturday and Sunday)
  • Weeks remaining (fractional)
  • The US federal holidays that fall within the range, if you choose to exclude them

US federal holidays in 2026 include: New Year, MLK Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.

Weekend holidays move. When a federal holiday lands on a Saturday it is observed the Friday before, and when it lands on a Sunday it is observed the Monday after. Independence Day 2026 falls on a Saturday, so the day off is Friday 3 July. Juneteenth 2027 is also a Saturday, observed Friday 18 June. Christmas Day 2027 is a Saturday, observed Friday 24 December. This calculator uses the observed dates, because those are the days nobody is at their desk.

Not every employer observes all of these. If your team takes Columbus Day but works Juneteenth, adjust for it yourself; the calculator lists exactly which days it removed so you can check.

The holiday list covers 2025 through 2027. Past that it counts every weekday, and it says so.

One practical note on deadline management: business days are the right unit for estimating work, but calendar days govern dependencies. Vendors, clients, and shipping schedules do not care about your Monday-to-Friday.

When planning backwards from a hard deadline:

  • Identify the last possible day work can be submitted
  • Subtract review and approval time (usually 2-5 business days)
  • Subtract buffer for revisions (1-3 days)
  • What remains is when the actual work needs to be finished

The results this calculator shows are as of the current date in your browser.
