Tennis Stats Calculator
Calculate tennis serve effectiveness from aces, double faults, first serve percentage, and break points.
Analyze your serve game.
Tennis match statistics provide objective performance metrics that go beyond the final score. Key stats — first serve percentage, winners, unforced errors, and break point conversion — reveal where matches are won and lost.
First serve percentage: First Serve % = (First Serves In ÷ Total Service Points Played) × 100
ATP Tour benchmark: top players maintain 60–70% first serve percentage. Below 55% = opponent faces too many easy second serves.
Service points won: Service Points Won % = (Points Won on Serve ÷ Total Service Points) × 100
Strong servers: 65–75%. Below 55% = serious service problems.
Break point conversion rate: BP Conversion % = (Break Points Won ÷ Break Points Faced) × 100
World-class players convert 35–50% of break point opportunities. Saving break points (high %) is equally important.
Winners-to-Unforced Errors ratio (W/UE ratio): W/UE Ratio = Total Winners ÷ Unforced Errors
- Ratio > 1.5: excellent — winners far outpacing errors
- Ratio 1.0–1.5: solid performance
- Ratio < 1.0: errors exceeding winners — losing the ball control battle
Return points won: Return Points Won % = (Points Won on Return ÷ Total Return Points) × 100
In men’s tennis, top returners win 38–45% of return points. Below 35% = being dominated by opponent’s serve.
Hold percentage (service games held): Hold % = (Service Games Held ÷ Total Service Games) × 100
Top-10 players hold 80–90%+ of service games.
Match dominance formula (unofficial composite): Dominance = (Service Points Won % + Return Points Won %) − 100
Positive value = dominant; negative = being outplayed. A value of +10 or higher in a match strongly predicts victory.
Worked example: Player A’s stats from a 3-set match (7–6, 3–6, 6–4):
- First serves in: 68 of 110 = 61.8% (solid)
- Service points won: 71 of 110 = 64.5%
- Return points won: 52 of 108 = 48.1% (excellent — dominating opponent’s serve)
- Winners: 42 | Unforced errors: 28 → W/UE ratio = 1.50 (strong)
- Break points won: 7 of 15 = 46.7% conversion (excellent)
- Dominance: 64.5% + 48.1% − 100 = +12.6 — dominant win confirmed by statistics
