Bridesmaid Budget Calculator
Estimate the full cost of being a bridesmaid: dress, alterations, shoes, hair, makeup, travel, bachelorette, and gift expenses all in one place.
Bridesmaid costs encompass far more than just the dress. A realistic bridesmaid budget estimator adds up all expected expenses across the full wedding journey — from the engagement to the wedding day and honeymoon send-off.
Total Bridesmaid Cost Formula: Total = Dress + Alterations + Shoes + Accessories + Hair + Makeup + Bachelorette Party + Bridal Shower + Gifts + Travel + Accommodation
Simplified formula: Total Bridesmaid Cost = Σ(All line item costs)
What each variable means:
- Dress: the single largest cost, typically chosen by the bride. Range: $80–$350 for off-the-rack; $200–$600+ for designer or custom. Bridesmaids often pay for their own dress.
- Alterations: most bridesmaid dresses require tailoring. Budget $50–$150 per garment.
- Shoes: if the bride specifies matching shoes: $40–$120.
- Hair + Makeup: professional styling on the wedding day: $100–$250 each (often split or paid by bride in upscale weddings).
- Bachelorette party: often organized and funded by bridesmaids. Local: $100–$300/person. Destination (Vegas, Miami): $500–$2,000+/person.
- Bridal shower: bridesmaids co-host and co-fund: $50–$200/person.
- Gifts: engagement gift ($30–$100) + bridal shower gift ($50–$150) + wedding gift ($75–$200) = $155–$450 total in gifts.
- Travel/accommodation: for destination weddings, flights + hotel can add $500–$3,000+.
Worked example — local wedding:
- Dress: $180
- Alterations: $75
- Shoes: $65
- Accessories (earrings, clutch): $45
- Hair: $90, Makeup: $80
- Bachelorette party (local, 10 bridesmaids): $200
- Bridal shower contribution: $80
- Gifts (shower + wedding): $175
- Gas/parking for multiple events: $40
Total ≈ $1,030
Worked example — destination wedding: Add: Flights $400, Hotel 3 nights $450, Bachelorette destination trip $1,200 Total ≈ $3,080
Budget management tips: Ask the bride early what’s expected. Set clear expectations about bachelorette budget. Many brides offer to cover hair, makeup, or shoes as a gesture of appreciation. Communicate openly about budget limitations — a good friend will understand.
