Domain Value Estimator
Estimate domain name value from age, traffic, keyword value, and TLD.
Returns a price range for .com, .net, .org, and country-code domains.
Domain name valuation is part art, part science. There is no single formula — but professional domain brokers and appraisal tools weight a set of measurable factors to estimate fair market value. Most domain sales happen in the $500–$50,000 range; ultra-premium generics like “Insurance.com” ($35.6M) or “Hotels.com” ($11M) are rare exceptions.
Composite score approach: Estimated Value = Base Score × TLD Multiplier × Memorability Score × Commercial Score × Market Demand Multiplier
Factor 1 — TLD (Top-Level Domain) multiplier:
- .com: 1.0× (gold standard — all others compared to .com)
- .io: 0.4–0.6× (popular for tech startups)
- .co: 0.3–0.5×
- .net: 0.2–0.4×
- .org: 0.1–0.3×
- Country TLDs (.uk, .de, .ca): 0.15–0.4× depending on market
- New gTLDs (.app, .ai, .shop): 0.2–0.5× depending on niche
Factor 2 — Length and memorability:
- 1–4 characters: extremely rare and valuable ($10,000–$500,000+)
- 5–7 characters: premium ($1,000–$50,000)
- 8–10 characters: standard ($200–$5,000)
- 11+ characters: declining value unless keyword-rich
Factor 3 — Commercial keyword value: Check Google Keyword Planner for monthly search volume and CPC:
- High CPC keywords (insurance, loans, legal): multiply estimated value by 3–8×
- Medium CPC (software, health, travel): 1.5–3×
- Low CPC (hobbies, niche): 1.0–1.5×
Factor 4 — Brandability:
- Single dictionary word: highest premium
- Two-word combo (both memorable): very valuable
- Invented but pronounceable word: moderate value
- Hyphenated or hard to spell: significant discount (−40–70%)
Comparables method (most reliable): Search recent domain sales on Namebio.com, SEDO, or Afternic for similar names. Adjust for length, TLD, and niche.
Worked example: Domain: “QuickLoans.com” — 10 characters, .com, two dictionary words, “loans” has CPC ~$44.
- Base value for 10-char .com: ~$1,500
- Commercial multiplier (high CPC): × 5 = $7,500
- Brandability (common two-word phrase): × 1.8 = ~$13,500 estimated value
Compare to Namebio.com sales: “FastLoans.com” sold for $14,000 (2021) — validates the estimate.
