Streaming Services Total Cost Calculator
Add all your streaming subscriptions to see monthly and annual entertainment spending.
Covers Netflix, Disney+, Hulu, Spotify, and custom services.
Streaming service cost analysis helps you understand the true per-hour, per-title, or per-month cost of your entertainment subscriptions — and identify services you are paying for but underusing.
Cost per Hour Formula:
Cost per Hour = Monthly Subscription Cost / Hours Watched per Month
Cost per Title Formula:
Cost per Title = Monthly Cost / Titles Watched per Month
Worked example: Netflix Standard: $15.49/month Viewing: 45 hours/month, 6 titles/month
Cost per hour: $15.49 / 45 = $0.34/hour Cost per title: $15.49 / 6 = $2.58/title
Compare: Movie theater ticket ≈ $14–18 per 2-hour film = $7–9/hour Streaming wins on cost per hour by a wide margin — but only if you watch regularly.
Break-even viewership (when streaming stops being worth it): If your threshold for “reasonable entertainment value” is $3/hour: Minimum hours needed = Monthly cost / $3 threshold Netflix at $15.49: 15.49 / 3 = 5.2 hours/month minimum
Multi-service annual audit:
| Service | Monthly | Hours/Mo | $/Hr |
|---|---|---|---|
| Netflix | $15.49 | 30 | $0.52 |
| Disney+ | $13.99 | 5 | $2.80 |
| Hulu | $17.99 | 2 | $9.00 |
In this example, Hulu is costing $9/hour — far less value than Netflix. Cancelling Hulu saves $215.88/year.
Practical tip — the rotation method: Subscribe to one service for 2–3 months, binge what you want, cancel, rotate to the next. You can cycle through 4–5 services in a year for the cost of keeping 2 simultaneously.
Annual streaming savings from rotating: typically $300–$600 per household compared to keeping all services active year-round.
