Cost per Hour Formula:
Cost per Hour = Monthly Subscription Cost / Hours Watched per Month
Cost per Title Formula:
Cost per Title = Monthly Cost / Titles Watched per Month
Worked example: Netflix Standard: $15.49/month Viewing: 45 hours/month, 6 titles/month
Cost per hour: $15.49 / 45 = $0.34/hour Cost per title: $15.49 / 6 = $2.58/title
Compare: Movie theater ticket ≈ $14–18 per 2-hour film = $7–9/hour Streaming wins on cost per hour by a wide margin — but only if you watch regularly.
Break-even viewership (when streaming stops being worth it): If your threshold for “reasonable entertainment value” is $3/hour: Minimum hours needed = Monthly cost / $3 threshold Netflix at $15.49: 15.49 / 3 = 5.2 hours/month minimum
